Thru-Hiking
The Baltimore Sun has a good article on a local thru-hiker.
t's not uncommon that people assume that hiking the trail is one lengthy camping trip, Sharpe said. In fact, "thru-hikers" -- people who walk the "A.T." in one continuous journey

I did not meet Sudoku on my hike this year. I hiked from Clark's Ferry PA to Glencliff NH, a journey of 643 miles. Not bad considering I had Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot.

The article did not mention bears. Most hikers get questions about bears. I am not particularly concerned about bears myself.
