Hiking Tips
These tips are for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area: but are a good idea any where.

•Carry plenty of water and drink it. Bring at least one quart for short walks. Longer hikes require more than one quart of water. Alcohol is not a good substitute for water.

• Never hike alone. Use the buddy system so someone can go for help in case of trouble.

•Stay on established trails and do not shortcut.

•Plan out the hike ahead of time and inform a close friend or family member of the plan.

•Wear sturdy footwear, such as hiking boots or sneakers.

•Wear sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. A long-sleeved shirt is recommended for bright, sunny days.

Read them all. Also hike safe from the National Forest Service and New Hampshire Fish and Game.
