I have been meaning to write a post about nalgene bottles for a few days now. I just saw this article from the Gristmill so: It seems that Mountain Equipment Co Op in Canada has caused a few people to write articles about them. From the Globe and Mail:
he plastic in question is made mostly from bisphenol A, which mimics estrogen and is derived from petrochemicals.
It has been linked in dozens of independent research studies to illnesses that could be caused by hormone disruption.
And this from Reuter's:
It has been linked in dozens of independent research studies to illnesses that could be caused by hormone disruption.[...]
Norway and the European Union are also reviewing the product. Japanese manufacturers decided voluntarily to stop making products using polycarbonate plastic five to six years ago.
Of course the manufacturer's deny anything could be wrong with there product. I stopped using them because they are heavy. Most long distance hikers do not use them for that reason. Heck, the last time I bought one(at Goodwill) it was so I could put stickers on it. The stickers cost more than the bottle.
